CHET MORRISON

Chet Morrison is a 46 year-old business man from Terrebonne Parish.  He is the founder, owner and chief executive officer of an energy service company that builds and installs offshore platforms and pipelines.  The company’s main office and pipeline operations are based in Houma, Louisiana where marine operations function along the Houma Navigation and the Intracoastal Canal.  The company also operates platform fabrication yards in Terrebonne and Jefferson Parishes and in Labrea, Trinidad and Alvardo, Mexico.

Born one of seven children and a native of Houma, Morrison graduated from St. Stanislaus School in Bay Saint Louis and earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at Louisiana State University.  He joined the work force as a project engineer performing oil and gas construction for Delta Services in Terrebonne Parish.  As a third generation member to the family lumber and hardware business, Morrison gained management experience working with his father while continuing to expand his construction business.

On that foundation, he incorporated Chet Morrison Contractors in 1983.  The company started out in residential contracts and built on that base moving to commercial then municipal projects.  Taking advantage of opportunities created during economic down cycles, Morrison gained access to industrial projects.  Throughout the past fifteen years the organization has grown through integration and long-range vision, expanding services to include pipeline and diving operations.  The company currently works a fleet of four offshore pipeline barges and five diving and support vessels and employs over 1,000 persons.

In addition to the construction activities, Chet Morrison is active in an oil and gas production company based in Texas and manages a large wildlife estuary located at the bottom of the Atchalafaya Basin in St. Mary Parish.  He is currently president of the South Central Industrial Association, a regional group representing over 200 member firms and 35,000 employees.  Chet Morrison is the father of four children, Kelly age 27, Jillian 21, Stephanie 16, and Ches 14.  He maintains a residence in New Orleans and enjoys spending time with his family in Grand Isle, La.

With a broad geographic knowledge of South Louisiana, a working history of operating in this coastal environment, a solid business background, and concerns for the bayou region, he now welcomes the opportunity to contribute as a member of the Louisiana Recovery Authority.
